Orbital Rescue
Even before the first Mercury mission, NASA’s Scientist have considered how to successfully rescue a crippled space craft.
NASA’s first real chance to make repair in orbit came with the deployment of Skylab. Since then, advent of the space shuttle has made this type of mission a great deal easier. Today astronauts can pilot the shuttle within yards of crippled satellites and float untethered using the MMU (Manned Maneuvering Unit).
Join us in open space on the world’s first satellite repair. Then see the crew of the Shuttle Endeavour on the mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope. Then, see why it took three astronauts to capture the INTELSAT VI communications satellite.
