Project Mercury
The world watched as Russia captured the lead in what would become the “Space Race.” America found itself behind in a race it could not afford to lose. The stakes were high as the entire country’s industrial and military resources were brought to bear as the newly formed NASA scrambled to catch up. From the dark days of Sputnik 1, Project Mercury was born…and before it was over, America had caught the Russians and we were on our way to the Moon…
From hundreds of volunteers, sixty-nine were summoned to Washington…seven were chosen to lead America to glory. These men would put their lives on the line for their country in a program that President Kennedy described as “One of the great adventures of all time.”
Join us as we re-live the missions and explore the race that would eventually place a man on the moon.
