When you think of Guatemala, images of an exotic land come to mind. A place where time stands still and ancient history comes alive. On the surface it appears to be similar to it’s neighbor to the north, Mexico. But as you travel the countryside you quickly realize this is not Mexico and the seasoned traveler is thank for the difference. Most historians would agree that Guatemala was the epicenter of the Maya as well as the jumping off point for 16th century Spanish exploration. Today, Guatemala is an amazing mix of old world charm and soon 20th century progress.
